Attractions

Kaiwaka is known as “the little town of lights”, as local residents, churches and businesses decorate their properties with charming lights. The town boasts a delicious Italian Bakery, and the famous Dutch Cheese Shop. The Cheese Shop specialises in a wide range of goods from Holland, i.e., Dutch cheeses, wine and specialty foods.

A 15-minute drive east from Kaiwaka brings you to Mangawhai and its magnificent surf beach, bird sanctuary, coastal walks, museum, restaurants and golf course.

Back on SH1, drive north to Whangarei (40 minutes) and the Bay of Islands or turn left at Brynderwyn and head towards the Twin Coast Discovery Highway along Northland’s Kauri Coast. The Matakohe Kauri Museum beckons, along with the Kai Iwi Lakes and Dargaville township before the renowned Waipoua Forest.
